IMPERIAL GUARD - Tall Bearded Iris
Keppel 2017
Honorable Mention 2019
His uniform is for pomp, with extravagant ruffling and even a hint of lace on close inspection. Quince yellow standards carry a faint plumbago blue flush up the midrib. Falls are dark red purple with quarter-inch lighter marginal veining and narrow sandalwood edge, while the haft area is buckthorn brown and white. A wood violet center line leads to abbey violet beards top-layered mustard in the throat. Stalwart seven-budded sentinel to watch over the close of the bearded iris festivities. Grows to 38" and blooms late season.
Iris rhizomes are best divided and transplanted after the plants finish blooming and have enough time to store nutrition in their roots. July through September is the best time to dig them up in Ohio. All Iris are grown on my farm and shipped from my home, bareroot with foliage and roots attached.
